Kara M. Ariail is a Partner in the Washington, D.C. Region office of Jackson Lewis LLP.
Ms. Ariail’s practice focuses on employment litigation and counseling. She represents employers before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department Labor, and numerous federal and state courts and agencies. She effectively and efficiently defends claims of discrimination and harassment, violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act, breach of contract, defamation, negligence and wrongful termination.
Ms. Ariail also works closely with clients to provide ongoing counseling and training designed to minimize the risk of litigation and maximize employee retention and productivity. She regularly advises employers on a wide range of employment issues, including successful hiring, employee performance management and termination strategies; development and implementation of anti-harassment and other personnel policies; evaluating reasonable accommodation obligations under the ADA and state disability laws; and achieving compliance with the FMLA and state leave laws. Ms. Ariail assists clients in preparing and enforcing agreements related to executive employment, confidentiality, restrictive covenants and severance.
Ms. Ariail was selected for inclusion in 2010, 2011 and 2012 Virginia Super Lawyers—Rising Stars. She is a frequent speaker before HR, industry and business groups. She is a member of the Virginia and District of Columbia Bars.
After graduating cum laude from American University in 1997, Ms. Ariail earned her law degree from the William and Mary School of Law in 2001. While in law school, Ms. Ariail served as the Editor-in-Chief of the William and Mary Bill of Rights Journal, which is consistently ranked among the top ten specialty law journals in the country.
