Jackson Lewis Shareholder John Snyder Receives 15 Year Circle Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Service

NEW YORK, NY (November 11, 2014) -- Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the largest workplace law firms in the world representing management, is pleased to announce New York City Shareholder John A. Snyder has received a 2014 15 Year Circle Award from Lawyers Alliance for New York, which connects attorneys with nonprofits serving communities in need.  Mr. Snyder was one of 63 pro bono volunteers who received the organization’s 15 Year Circle Award, honoring volunteer attorneys whose pro bono work through Lawyers Alliance has spanned at least 15 years.  The 15 Year Circle Award was presented this year as part of Lawyers Alliance’s annual pro bono attorney awards ceremony, the Cornerstone Awards, in special recognition of Lawyers Alliance’s 45th anniversary.

This is the second time that Lawyers Alliance has recognized Jackson Lewis -- the firm received Lawyers Alliance’s 2011 Cornerstone Award as an institutional honoree for the New York area offices’ outstanding pro bono service to nonprofits.

“I am proud to work at a firm that believes it is our duty as legal professionals to help ensure all individuals have equal access to legal representation, regardless of their means,” said Snyder.  “I am so grateful for my time spent working with Lawyers Alliance and look forward to contributing many more years of pro bono service to their deserving clients.”

Mr. Snyder has been involved with Lawyers Alliance’s pro bono efforts since he graduated from law school, serving clients including a child care center, The United Federation of Black Community Organizations, Inc., Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, which assists disadvantaged youths and adults through job training and other support programs, Directions for Our Youth, a youth assistance organization in Brooklyn and the Bronx, Queens Community House, a community-based neighborhood program, and most recently for CAMBA, a Brooklyn non-profit agency that offers economic development, education, housing and related community services.

“We are very proud of John’s volunteerism and congratulate him on this award,” said Kevin G. Lauri, Managing Shareholder of Jackson Lewis’ New York City office.  “He has long been an advocate and supporter of pro bono work, and Jackson Lewis applauds his countless hours of volunteering for the Lawyers Alliance and its clients.”

Mr. Snyder has extensive experience litigating state and federal discrimination, retaliation, commission and wage and hour, contract, restrictive covenant, executive compensation, whistleblower, fair housing and many other facets of employment-related litigation on behalf of management.  He is an active member of the firm's Non-Competes and Protection Against Unfair Competition practice group, and a regular contributor to its blog.  He provides advice and counseling on employee hiring and departure issues, drafts restrictive covenant, employment, and executive compensation agreements, as well as litigates and handles employment contract, executive compensation and non-competition matters throughout the country.  In addition to volunteering through Lawyers Alliance, John is active in the New York County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and serves on the Township of Montclair, NJ Civil Rights Commission.

The Lawyers Alliance Cornerstone Award program recognizes individuals and institutions that make extraordinary contributions through pro bono services to helping improve the lives of lower-income New Yorkers.  The Award has been given annually since 1997 by the Lawyers Alliance, which was formed in 1969 to help connect attorneys with local nonprofits serving New York communities in need.

Jackson Lewis is committed to providing pro bono representation in the various communities served by the firm, and expects all attorneys to render at least fifty hours of pro bono legal services per year. More information regarding the firm’s pro bono efforts can be found here.
