James Botana Appointed Office Managing Principal in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL (July 26, 2016) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, announced that James F. Botana has been elevated to Office Managing Principal in the firm’s Chicago office.  James succeeds Principal Jane M. McFetridge, who has stepped down after serving in the role for almost nine years to focus her attention on the practice of law and business development.

“We extend our sincere thanks for Jane for her numerous achievements during her tenure and wish James the best as he takes the helm in Chicago,” said Firm Chairman Vincent A. Cino.  “During his 16 year career at Jackson Lewis, he has demonstrated a singular devotion to our firm. We are confident he will build upon the platform created by Jane and continue to expand Jackson Lewis’ presence in the Midwest.”

“I feel lucky to have such a solid foundation to build upon,” said Botana.  “Jane McFetridge as Managing Principal and Peter Bulmer before her built a strong team of talented attorneys and staff.  I look forward to leading this office in its future growth."

Mr. Botana represents management in employment cases in federal and state courts, and before administrative agencies in a variety of employment and labor related claims. Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, he was a prosecutor and a senior attorney in the Employment Litigation Department of the Office of the Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago. Since joining Jackson Lewis in August 2000, Mr. Botana has continued to represent management before federal and state courts and administrative agencies in a variety of employment and labor related claims. He currently serves as a Special Assistant Corporation counsel and represents the City of Chicago and its employees in a variety of claims.

Mr. Botana was born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Spain. He is fluent in Spanish and is frequently called upon by businesses with Spanish-speaking workforces to train managers and supervisors as well as non-supervisory employees in both English and Spanish in best employment practices and to conduct investigations of employment related disputes. He is the co-chair of Jackson Lewis’ Hispanic-American Attorney Resource Group, a group of attorneys in the firm who specialize in providing assistance in workplace law matters to businesses with a large Hispanic workforce. Mr. Botana is also a founding member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and was recently reappointed to a second two-year term on the Illinois State Advisory Committee (SAC) of the US Commission on Civil Rights.

Mr. Botana received his B.S. from Chicago State University and his J.D. from DePaul University.
