Biography

Gary A. Pappas is Of Counsel in the Boston, Massachusetts, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Mr. Pappas has practiced in the field of Immigration Law for over 42 years.

He has represented large and small employers in various industries. He has assisted his clients in all aspects of employment-related immigration issues including Temporary Professional Workers, Intra-company Transferees, and the Permanent Resident process. He has also given advice and counsel to Human Resource personnel and internal counsel on developing and establishing company policies and procedures for compliance with U.S. Immigration regulations.

Throughout his career, he has been an active participant in many professional Immigration Law related organizations and has lectured and served as a panel member on Immigration related topics.

In 1998, Mr. Pappas received a Certificate-International Security Studies Fellow from Tufts University, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.

Mr. Pappas also had a 37 year military career, culminating as the Commanding General of the Massachusetts Army National Guard (2000-2005). In 2004, by agreement of the Governor of Massachusetts and the Secretary of Defense he was entrusted with responsibility for Department of Defense assets providing security for the 2004 Democratic National Convention held in Boston. This was the first post 9/11 major political convention. During his tenure as Commanding General, he also had planning and oversight responsibility for other Special Security events. He also lectured extensively across the country on the topic of the military’s role in homeland security. Mr. Pappas retired from the military in 2005.

Throughout his more than 40 years of practice in the field of Immigration Law, Mr. Pappas has served as both a panelist and individual presenter at professional conferences sponsored by the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association. He also has lectured second year law students at Suffolk University Law School on professional responsibility and ethics.

In addition, Mr. Pappas has spoken extensively on matters concerning homeland security issues to U.S. Army Generals and other senior officers.
