Employers of every size and in every industry face employment law challenges. These issues present risks and often divert management’s attention from other important business matters.

In this interactive seminar, participants will learn about the latest legal developments from seasoned labor and employment lawyers, and explore ways they may avoid liability by developing preventive strategies.

Federal anti-discrimination laws do not list sexual orientation or transgender status as protected categories. However, the Supreme Court held in 1989 that treating someone differently due to failure to conform to gender stereotypes is a form of gender discrimination.  In 2015, the EEOC applied these principles to rule that employment discrimination against employees because they are gay or transgender is necessarily discrimination because of sex. Join us for a practical look at LGBT issues in the workplace, including:

  • Case law and state/local statutory developments related to LGBT protections,
  • Best practices for supporting employees undergoing gender transition,
  • Management of logistics – restrooms, benefits, and employment forms, and
  • Strategies for promoting a respectful and inclusive your workplace.
