12/7/16: Immigration Year-In-Review

Join Jackson Lewis as we review critical changes in business immigration and employer compliance over the past year, as well as what to expect in light of the upcoming change in Administration.  During 2016, the Obama administration has made a number of significant changes related to immigration affecting all employers.  From release of the new “smart” Form I-9 required of all employers, to proposals expanding the authority of the Office of Special Counsel to investigate immigration-related discrimination and document abuse in the hiring process, compliance and enforcement at the workplace remain a priority.  At the same time, the Administration has provided employers with additional opportunities to employ foreign workers.  Lastly, with a change in administrations months away, what can employers expect in the coming year and beyond.

  • The new Form I-9.
  • ICE and OSC enforcement trends.
  • Administrative efforts to improve immigration for employers:
    • The STEM OPT rule.
    • Status of the I-140/H-1B/EAD rule.
    • Proposed perm regulation reform.
  • What’s next for 2017.
