WHITE PLAINS, NY (December 18, 2013) - Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the largest workplace law firms in the world representing management, is pleased to announce the firm elevated six women to the role of Managing or Resident Shareholder in 2013: Tammy L. Baker (Birmingham); Kathleen R. Barrow (Rapid City); Karen E. Griffin (Dallas); Gina K. Janeiro (Minneapolis); Sarah J. Ryan (Portland); and Ruthie White (Houston.)

These elevations have resulted in a total number of 14 female Managing Partners or Resident Managers firm-wide, meaning 26% of the firm’s 54 offices are headed by a female. Significantly, there has been a 75% increase in the number of female Managing Shareholders or Resident Managers since 2012.

In addition, Baltimore Shareholder Joy Napier-Joyce and Los Angeles Shareholder Nicky Jatana have been named Practice Group Leaders of the Employee Benefits and Privacy, e-Communication and Data Security practice groups, respectively.  Hartford Shareholder Margaret (Peggy) J. Strange has been named National Client Practice Leader, a position created to enhance the firm’s representation of national clients.

“We thank our newest women Managing and Resident Shareholders and Practice Leaders for their significant contributions to our success both in our local offices and nationwide,” said Firm Chairman Vincent A. Cino. “Across the span of their entire careers and including their recent promotions, these women have earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike. With the support of the entire firm, we are excited to see how our local offices and practice groups will continue to flourish under these valued Shareholders.”

Jackson Lewis, recently named the 2014 "Law Firm of the Year" in Litigation - Labor & Employment by U.S. News — Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms,” has garnered the following accolades and awards in recognition of the firm's commitment to integrating female attorneys into top leadership positions:

  • Certified as a “Gold Standard Firm” by the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF), a designation reserved for large firms that have successfully integrated female attorneys into its highest leadership positions
  • Ranked third in MultiCultural Law magazine’s “Top 100 Law Firms for Women” and thirty-sixth on the “Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity” list, which ranks the nation’s top firms for excellence in promoting diversity and inclusion within the legal profession
  • Included as one of the top 20 firms in the “Women in the Equity Partnership” report published by the National Law Journal after ranking 17th out of 221 law firms based on our high percentage of female equity partners

The firm’s commitment to diversity is reflected in our overall composition and the significant roles played by female and diverse partners in firm management.  For example,

  • Boston Shareholder Joan Ackerstein, the firm’s National Director of Litigation, and Los Angeles Shareholder Mia Farber serve on the firm’s Management Committee;
  • 22% of the firm’s Litigation Managers are female;
  • 42% of the firm’s attorneys are female; and
  • Jackson Lewis’ Partnership Admission Committee includes two women Shareholders.

Jackson Lewis has been at the forefront in fostering the promotion of women in the legal profession, most notably through our Women’s Employment Law Conference (WELC,) the firm’s annual employment law conference for women in-house counsel and human resources executives.

The firm’s Women's Interest Network (WIN) supports and encourages the success of women at the firm by, among other things, working to create new business and leadership opportunities. This year, WIN expanded upon its mentoring capabilities by initiating the Jackson Lewis Master’s Series, a monthly hour-long conference call where attorneys and staff from all of Jackson Lewis’ 54 locations are encouraged to dial-in and listen to a pre-designated Jackson Lewis “Master” answer questions relating to client development and effective work habits.
