Biography

J. Alexander Dattilo is an associate in the Phoenix, Arizona, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. He focuses his practice on the representation of management in all aspects of labor & employment law, with an emphasis on employment litigation and advising.

Alexander routinely defends employers across a wide range of industries in litigation and administrative proceedings, and defends against lawsuits and administrative charges alleging violations of Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and common law. He also represents employers in matters involving claims for breach of restrictive covenants, non-disclosure agreements, and trade secret misappropriation. He has litigated numerous cases through trial, arbitration, and mediation, with all attendant discovery and motion practice.

Alexander also regularly advises employers on the day-to-day operations of their businesses. He provides preventive counseling, assists with internal investigations of employee complaints, conducts preventive and remedial training for management, and drafts internal policies for employers to ensure compliance with all applicable law.

Alexander focuses a substantial portion of his practice on issues pertaining to employee drug-testing, including those implicating the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act and Arizona Drug-Testing of Employees Act. He advises employers on matters of compliance in this area, has litigated employee drug-testing issues in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels, and has served as a guest speaker on the topic for professional groups.

Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Alexander served in a judicial externship with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. While attending law school, he was an editor and board member for the Arizona Journal of Environmental Law and Policy and gained his initial trial experience through the Arizona Child and Family Law Clinic.

Alexander is a Pittsburgh native.
