Biography
Kien C. Tiet is of counsel in the Riverside, California, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. He works with business leaders to navigate the unique legal issues of the California workplace. He is a trusted advisor who provides advice that is pragmatic and responsive.
Kien advises employers throughout all stages of the employment relationship, including hiring, contract negotiation, policy drafting, discipline, termination and restrictive covenant enforcement.
He is also an experienced employment litigation attorney who has handled and successfully resolved numerous cases in state and federal courts, as well as administrative agencies, with emphasis on wage-and-hour class actions, PAGA litigation, discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination.
Kien has held positions of chief financial officer, chief operating officer, general counsel, and executive director for businesses in manufacturing, oil and gas, higher education, and rail car repair service. Some of his accomplishments include overseeing and managing a SEC audit and establishing internal controls to allow an oil and gas company to become a publicly traded entity; forming a nonprofit institution of higher education and providing legal guidance through the licensing and accreditation processes; and providing management and legal guidance to a rail car repair company in the restructuring of its HR department and establishing employment guidelines to meet the legal requirements of the 14 states in which it operates.
With his knowledge of the complex California and federal employment laws combined with his vast experience, Kien vigorously advocates for the rights of his clients after defining the client’s interests and establishing a strategy for a successful outcome.
