LeRoy J. Watkins


LeRoy J. Watkins is a Principal in the Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Prior to joining the firm, he was General Counsel of a prominent investment banking company and previously served as employment counsel in the law departments of two Fortune 500 companies and in the labor and employment departments at several distinguished national law firms.

Mr. Watkins's practice focuses on employment and labor litigation in both state and federal courts, and he has extensive experience defending employers in discrimination, harassment, and wrongful discharge matters throughout the country. Mr. Watkins also represents management in arbitrations and related labor matters. He formerly served as Co-Chair of the Jackson Lewis Diversity Committee.

Mr. Watkins was appointed First Deputy Commissioner of Investigation of the New York City School District in 1991 and served in that capacity from 1991 to 1995. Previously, from 1982-1983, he served as Deputy General Counsel for the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs. Mr. Watkins is also an Employment Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.

Mr. Watkins’ trial work also includes the defense of municipalities and companies in more than 100 New York State Supreme and Civil Court trials, civil service and administrative hearings and arbitrations.

While attending Yale University, Mr. Watkins was the recipient of the Stan Smith Award for outstanding contribution by a senior member of the varsity basketball team.
