R. Shane Kagan

Biography

R. Shane Kagan is of counsel in the Berkeley Heights, New Jersey office of Jackson Lewis P.C. His practice focuses on representing employers in workplace law matters, including pre-litigation claims and litigation, and preventive advice and counsel. 

Shane is experienced in a wide-range of employment matters, including matters filed in state and federal courts, with the EEOC, and the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights. His practice includes all aspects of litigation and pre-litigation matters, specifically including risk management, litigation strategy, mediation, and restrictive covenant counseling and enforcement. From inception to conclusion, Shane has successfully represented management and individual clients in matters within the public and private sectors, including NJLAD, Title VII, ADA, CEPA, FMLA, NJFLA, wage and hour, non-compete, and numerous other employment litigation matters. Additionally, Shane routinely counsels his clients on company policies and handbooks, employment-related business concerns, and personnel actions. 

While attending law school, Shane served as treasurer and executive board member for the Moot Court Board, and was an articles editor for the Rutgers Law Record. He also was a judicial extern for the Honorable Freda L. Wolfson, the current chief judge in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

After law school, Shane was a law clerk for the Honorable W. Hunt Dumont, P.J.Cv. (ret.) in the Superior Court of New Jersey in Morris County. Following his clerkship, Shane practiced company and management-side labor and employment law for several years before joining Jackson Lewis in 2016.

Prior to engaging in a career in law, Shane was a high school social studies teacher and coach in South Plainfield, New Jersey. 

Shane lives in Morris County, New Jersey with his wife and two daughters.
