The hospitality industry is having its own #MeToo moment as UNITE HERE, a labor union representing roughly 270,000 hospitality workers, ramps up its efforts to have "panic buttons" required in hotels through the collective bargaining process and legislative action. Following the success of UNITE HERE's "Hands Off, Pants On" campaign, Seattle, Chicago and Sacramento County, California enacted legislation requiring hotel employers to equip their employees who work alone in guest rooms with a "panic button." Other municipalities around the country are expected to follow suit and many city-wide agreements now require panic buttons too.
