As you may have read in the news recently, large private universities are being targeted with ERISA class action lawsuits claiming, among other things, that their retirement plans are charging participants excessive fees and offering too many investment alternatives.   These lawsuits are being brought under ERISA, the federal law which governs group employee benefit plans of private employers. While the current crop of actions have not targeted public universities with governmental plans exempt from ERISA, it is important to note that the same fiduciary principles often apply under state trust law so all Plan Sponsors should be monitoring these developments.

Join members of Jackson Lewis’ Employee Benefits and Higher Education groups for a 1-hour webinar where we will discuss:

  • The details of the litigations and the firms bringing the suits;
  • What you can do to avoid or limit liability by reviewing your plan’s fees, any revenue sharing arrangements, the number of record keepers you have for your plans, and the number of investment options you offer in your plans; and
  • Tips for taking corrective action.
