Ryan A. Eugene is an associate in the Chicago, Illinois, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. He represents employers across the full spectrum of labor and employment law, including workplace litigation and preventive advice and counseling. Ryan counsels clients on employee relations, workplace investigations, discrimination and retaliation claims, disability and leave issues, reasonable accommodations, labor relations, collective bargaining, and compliance with federal and state employment laws.

Before joining Jackson Lewis, Ryan served as an Assistant General Counsel with the Washington Headquarters Services, Office of the General Counsel, at the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon), where he advised senior Department of Defense leadership on labor and employment matters affecting one of the nation’s largest civilian workforces. He represented the Department in employment litigation and counseled management on a broad range of workplace issues, including Equal Employment Opportunity matters, disability accommodations, leave administration, and federal employment law compliance. His experience as both a litigator and in-house counsel gives him a practical understanding of the legal, operational, and reputational challenges employers face when making workforce decisions.

While serving at the Department of Defense, Ryan earned an LL.M. in National Security Law from Georgetown University Law Center, strengthening his understanding of the legal and regulatory issues affecting government contractors and other highly regulated employers, including cybersecurity and national security compliance.

Earlier in his career, Ryan served as a Congressional Fellow to Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett and as a law clerk to the Hon. Vernida R. Chaney of the Court of Appeals of Virginia. Before becoming an attorney, he worked with several Fortune 500 companies, giving him firsthand insight into the business realities employers face.

Drawing on experience in private practice, government service, the judiciary, Capitol Hill, and the corporate sector, Ryan delivers practical, strategic legal counsel tailored to his clients’ business objectives.
