Stephanie Lewis Named Managing Partner of Jackson Lewis' Greenville Office

GREENVILLE, SC (June 19, 2012) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Stephanie E. Lewis has assumed the role of Greenville, South Carolina office Managing Partner.  Jackson Lewis Partner Ellison F. McCoy has taken on Ms. Lewis’s former responsibilities as Litigation Manager of the Greenville office.

Ms. Lewis has a long history of success in her leadership positions, including as Co-Chair of Jackson Lewis’ Pro Bono Committee.  She is now the 10th female attorney to head one of the firm’s 49 firm locations in the U.S.

In addition to her new responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of the Greenville office, Ms. Lewis continues to concentrate on her employment litigation practice in which she represents firm clients in a wide-range of matters, including Title VII, sexual harassment, pay discrimination, and disability discrimination issues.  A demonstrated leader, Ms. Lewis serves on the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association, Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for United Ministries, Women Attorney’s Subcommittee for United Way’s Women Leadership Committee, and Paralegal Advisory Board for Greenville Technical College. She is a member and committee chair for the Greenville Downtown Rotary Club, member of the Upstate Inn of Court, and is involved in civic activities throughout South Carolina.

Ms. Lewis received her B.A., magna cum laude, from North Carolina State University in 1997.  She earned her law degree, with high honors, in 2000 from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where she was named to the Order of the Coif, served as articles editor of the North Carolina Law Review, and was the recipient of the James E. and Carolyn B. Davis Award for Character and Service.  From 2002-04, Ms. Lewis served as a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Patrick Michael Duffy of the District of South Carolina.  From 2000-02, she was a law clerk for Judge Karen Johnson Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.   

As Litigation Manager, Mr. McCoy is responsible for overseeing all new and active litigation matters in the Greenville office.  Mr. McCoy also continues to handle a wide-variety of employment matters involving claims such as discrimination based on race, sex, national origin, age and disability; sexual and racial harassment; wrongful discharge; retaliation; breach of contract; defamation; and covenants not to compete and trade secret violations.  He devotes a significant amount of his practice to assisting employers with disability management issues, including compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Family and Medical Leave Act and litigation arising under those laws.  In addition, Mr. McCoy has extensive experience counseling clients on compliance issues and litigation avoidance strategies and regularly conducts management training programs on various employment-related topics.

Mr. McCoy graduated from Wake Forest University, cum laude, in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Business, and received his law degree from the University of Georgia, cum laude, in 1994.  He is Co-Author of Labor and Employment Law for South Carolina Lawyers, 3 ed. NA: South Carolina Bar, 2007 and 2nd ed.SC: South Carolina Bar, 2004.  Mr. McCoy is an active volunteer with St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s School, where he currently serves as a Committee Chairman for the St. Mary’s Classic and has previously served as an Advisory Board Member and School Finance Committee Member.  Mr. McCoy is a graduate of Leadership Greenville Class XXXI and was named one of Greenville’s Best & Brightest 35 and Under in 2004.
