
Marlo Johnson Roebuck
Marlo Johnson Roebuck is a principal in the Detroit, Michigan office of Jackson Lewis P.C., where she brings 25 years of experience advising employers on complex employment matters across the automotive, manufacturing, electrical, energy, retail, professional services, and education industries. She is a member of the firm’s Employment Litigation practice group.
During her years at Jackson Lewis, Marlo has held several trusted positions including serving as Office Managing Principal of the firm’s Detroit and Grand Rapids offices, as Co-Chair of the African American Attorney Resource Group, and as a member of the firm’s Advisory Committee to the Board of Directors. She currently serves as an Ombudsperson for the firm, providing confidential guidance and support to attorneys and staff.
Marlo is an experienced litigator and adviser to employers of all sizes relative to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, and state law equivalents. She has attained dismissals pre-trial and no cause verdicts at trial and arbitration as well as procured reasonable settlements in mediation. Marlo has also gained a view from the inside by providing employment counsel on-site at a large, multi-state employer. When Marlo is not in the court room or advising on workplace law issues, she conducts internal investigations or trains senior leadership, human resource professionals, and hourly employees on maintaining compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity policies. She is also a frequently sought after contributor, speaker, and author on preventing unlawful harassment, making religious accommodations, handling tricky terminations, employment law remedies, and best practices in inclusivity and hiring in the workplace. More recently, she has completed training to serve as a neutral mediator.
Before joining Jackson Lewis, Marlo had her own practice where she acted as in-house counsel to small business owners. Before that, she was an associate and then of counsel to a labor and employment boutique firm in Michigan. She began her legal career as an associate in the Chicago office of a national law firm in its labor and employment and litigation practice groups. Marlo began her professional career as a financial analyst and property accountant at a Fortune 100 company.
While attending law school, she served as the business manager and an articles and notes editor of the DePaul Law Review. Marlo clerked for Judge Ann Claire Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and Judge Blanche Manning of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
