BOSTON, MA (February 9, 2012) - Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Michael R. Bertoncini has joined the firm’s Boston office as Partner. Mr. Bertoncini joins Jackson Lewis with over 15 years of experience in the labor and employment field, with a particular emphasis on healthcare labor relations.
He comes to Jackson Lewis from Steward Health Care System, the largest fully integrated community care organization in the region, where he held the position of Deputy General Counsel since Steward’s inception in 2010. Before joining Steward, Mr. Bertoncini was Deputy General Counsel at Caritas Christi Health Care.
While with Caritas Christi Health Care, Mr. Bertoncini was responsible for negotiating a series of complex and groundbreaking labor agreements with various unions in Massachusetts that helped Caritas achieve its strategic labor relations goals. Mr. Bertoncini also worked on the transaction that resulted in Steward’s purchase of Caritas’ six hospitals and the creation of a for-profit healthcare system. Upon joining Steward, Mr. Bertoncini assumed responsibility for all labor and employment matters, and was involved in Steward’s growth from six hospitals to ten hospitals in a twelve-month period.

In addition to his labor relations experience, Mr. Bertoncini has extensive experience with respect to internal investigations, whistleblower and retaliation matters, and executive employment and separation agreements. At Jackson Lewis, Mr. Bertoncini will draw upon his broad experiences to provide clients with sound, practical legal representation in both labor and employment matters.
Mr. Bertoncini is currently admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of New York, as well as numerous federal district and appellate courts.
He graduated from Boston College cum laude in 1993 where he won the John A. McCarthy, SJ Award for the most distinguished Scholar of the College thesis, and he earned his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 1996.
