Former Federal Prosecutor Robert Peabody Joins New York Office of Jackson Lewis P.C.

NEW YORK, NY (February 18, 2014) -- Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the largest workplace law firms in the world representing management, is pleased to announce Robert L. Peabody has joined the firm’s New York City office as Of Counsel.  Mr. Peabody, who joins the firm from Collora LLP in Boston, focuses his practice on representing companies in white collar criminal and civil matters before state and federal courts, as well as investigations involving government agencies and private companies.

“Together with our recent addition of former Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lord in Denver, Bob gives a significant boost to our growing White Collar & Government Enforcement Practice Group,” said Paul V. Kelly, Leader of the Group.  “Bob, who is also a former Assistant United States Attorney and state prosecutor, has ten years’ experience helping corporate clients navigate government investigations, enforcement actions and criminal proceedings.  He adds substantial bench strength to our team at a critical time when our clients face increasingly complex regulations and heightened scrutiny and enforcement activity.”

“We are pleased to welcome Bob to our New York team,” said Kevin G. Lauri, Managing Shareholder of the office.  “He is an accomplished litigator who will bring tremendous value to the firm on a national and local level.”

During his tenure as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts between 1997 and 2005, Mr. Peabody was a senior prosecutor in the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), prosecuting high-profile racketeering and murder defendants and members and associates of organized crime and drug organizations on offenses that included conspiracy and money laundering.  As a member of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in Boston from 1993 to 1997, he led grand jury investigations and criminal prosecutions of white collar, fraud, embezzlement, narcotics and public corruption cases.

Since 2005, Mr. Peabody acquired extensive experience in securities, health care, tax and bank fraud matters. He has represented pharmaceutical and other health care professionals in investigations of illegal anti-kickbacks, off-label marketing, Medicare and Medicaid fraud. In addition, he has defended finance executives in options backdating, insider trading, accounting, and related tax and securities fraud allegations, as well as companies and individuals in state and federal investigations alleging campaign finance, bribery, and conflict of interest violations.

As a state and federal prosecutor, Mr. Peabody tried more than 60 jury trials in state and federal courts, and argued numerous cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Jackson Lewis’ White Collar & Government Enforcement Practice Group consists of Kevin Lashus in Austin, John Commisso and Sarah Walsh, also in Boston, Larry Shulman in Detroit, and Stacey Bastone in Long Island. The attorneys comprising the Practice have previously served as former federal or state prosecutors, as enforcement attorneys at the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Homeland Security or other government agencies, or have practiced in the white collar specialty area for many years.

“I am excited to join Jackson Lewis, a firm I have long admired for its geographic reach and roster of subject matter experts,” said Mr. Peabody.  “I look forward to contributing my years of experience to the firm’s already impressive White Collar & Government Enforcement Practice Group.”

Mr. Peabody previously chaired the Criminal Law Section of the Boston Bar Association and the New England Chapter of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.  He also served as chair of Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts, a non-profit organization that teaches English to indigent students, and was a member of the Board of the Boston Police Foundation.

Mr. Peabody received his B.A. from Harvard College, where he played varsity football and was elected First Class Marshal in 1977, and his J.D. from Boston College’s School of Law.  He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New York.  Mr. Peabody is married to Laura Peabody, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System.
