Jackson Lewis Joins LitWorld to Strengthen Children and Communities Through the Power of Their Own Stories

WHITE PLAINS, NY (July 27, 2017) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, is pleased to announce the firm has raised over $270,000 in support of LitWorld, a global literacy initiative serving children across the United States and in more than 60 countries. LitWorld, which aims to better children’s lives through the power of literacy, was founded by Pam Allyn, daughter of the late William Krupman who served as Jackson Lewis Managing Principal from 1975 to 2006.

“We designated LitWorld as our charity this year out of our deep respect for Bill Krupman and the amazing work Pam has done across the globe to help children express themselves creatively through reading, writing and storytelling,” said Firm Chairman Vincent A. Cino. “It has been incredibly humbling to watch all of our attorneys and staff step up to support childhood literacy.”

Jackson Lewis announced the launch of its LitWorld fundraising initiative in October 2016 in anticipation of the firm’s 2017 “June Weekend” retreat in San Diego.  Previously, as part of the firm’s ongoing charitable giving initiative associated with the retreat, the firm supported the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), Wounded Warrior Project® and the Armed Services YMCA, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars through office-wide fundraisers by attorneys and staff.

One of LitWorld’s ground-breaking initiatives has been the development of LitCamps. Integrating literacy and social-emotional learning, the LitCamp program is designed to fill the gap in critical out-of-school periods when children without books and reading in the home otherwise suffer catastrophic literacy learning losses. Through Jackson Lewis’ collaboration with LitWorld, Jackson Lewis attorneys and staff were able to help send more than 4,500 underprivileged elementary school children to LitCamps, where they will learn to read, write and develop important mentorships.

“LitCamp integrates literacy and social-emotional learning, building the crucial skills necessary to close this gap and to turn the 'summer slide' into the 'summer leap,'" said Ms. Allyn. “Thanks to Jackson Lewis, we have been able to expand our camps to middle school age students and this summer, we will serve over 145,000 children nationwide.”

“Our LitWorld initiative has allowed us to see how each of us can directly make a positive impact on our children and our communities, while at the same time honoring the legacy of Bill Krupman, to whom we all owe so much,” continued Mr. Cino. "While I am always proud of the attorneys and staff at Jackson Lewis, I am never more gratified than when I see what we can do when we remember the positive impact we can make as individuals and as a firm.”
