Keerthi Sugumaran Named President-Elect of the South Asian Bar Association of North America

BOSTON, MA (August 3, 2023) Nationwide employment law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. is pleased to announce Keerthi Sugumaran has been elected as president-elect of the South Asian Bar Association (SABA) of North America. Keerthi will begin serving her term as president of SABA in July 2024.

“We are proud to have Keerthi representing Jackson Lewis in her new role as president-elect of SABA,” said Kevin Lauri. “Her commitment to SABA and service to the South Asian legal community are unwavering. Keerthi has been an instrumental and involved member of the organization for several years, and we know that she will be integral to helping the organization achieve its broader goals.”

Keerthi Sugumaran is a principal in the firm’s Boston office. Her practice focuses on representing and defending employers in a variety of workplace legal matters, including claims for discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour violations, and FMLA violations. As a seasoned litigator, Keerthi regularly represents clients in front of state and federal courts and administrative agencies.

In addition to her litigation practice, Keerthi partners with her clients to understand their business so that she can effectively help minimize legal risk. She achieves this by developing policies and preventive practices for her clients and offering practical advice on difficult personnel matters before litigation arises. In addition, Keerthi is an experienced trainer on a variety of topics, including Respectful Workplace, Employment 101, Performance Management, and Leave Management. She has also completed certifications with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination to train on a variety of topics.

“It’s an honor to continue serving SABA as president-elect,” Keerthi said. “I look forward to furthering the organization’s mission to expand opportunities for South Asian attorneys across the country and in Canada.”

As president-elect, Keerthi will help further SABA’s mission of strengthening the rapidly growing South Asian legal community with a recognized and trusted forum for professional growth and development, and promoting civil rights and access to justice for the South Asian community. SABA has 29 chapters across the U.S. and Canada, forming the largest bar association of South Asian attorneys in North America.

Keerthi served as vice president of SABA’s Annual Conference that took place at the Boston Park Plaza in Boston on July 20-23, 2023. The Annual Conference included several days of activities ranging from professional and networking development, cultural engagement and celebration, to substantive legal programming, all set over a celebratory backdrop of food, entertainment, and social events with a unique South Asian flavor. The Annual Conference also featured programming from the SABA North America Foundation, which was started by SABA members to encourage philanthropy; promote, fund, and encourage the professional growth and development of the South Asian Legal Community in North America; support research on issues relevant to the South Asian Legal Community in North America; and educate the South Asian community in North America on the legal system and access to justice, while fostering confidence in the rule of law.

Keerthi earned her B.A. from Bowdoin College and her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School.
