Mental Health and Substance Abuse Issues in the Workplace
An employee seems increasingly unstable at work, crying frequently and appearing disoriented. You suspect a worker with spotty attendance may be abusing prescription drugs. An employee with PTSD occasionally exhibits excessive anger towards coworkers. An employee leaves work one day, threatening to harm himself/herself. Mental health and substance abuse issues are affecting the workplace in a variety of ways, and the federal and state laws that impact those situations can be daunting to master. Join us for an overview of the ADA, FMLA, and state and local leave laws that apply to mental health issues in the workplace, and to learn practical ways to navigate these situations with compliance, caution and care.

Best Practices for Protecting Your Company's Trade Secrets

In this session, we will discuss the various state and federal laws in the Washington D.C. region that provide remedies employers can use to protect trade secrets and other valuable confidential, business information from misappropriation by current and former employees. As part of this discussion, we will also review various policies and contractual arrangements that employer can set up to supplement and strengthen the protections and remedies afforded by these laws.
