A Firm Commitment

At the core of our Pro Bono Initiative is the belief that the firm and our attorneys play a unique role in ensuring equal access to the justice system on behalf of the disadvantaged and charitable organizations that serve the indigent. Not only does pro bono work provide a valuable public service, but it also dispenses invaluable training for our attorneys.

Our Pro Bono Initiative formalizes the firm’s deep commitment to pro bono legal services. In 2023, nearly 400 of our attorneys contributed 6,313 collective hours of pro bono legal services to the legal community, and in 2024 the firm was recognized as a Beacon of Justice honoree by the National Legal Aid & Defender Association for our civil and human rights pro bono work.

Representative Matters

Jackson Lewis attorneys have successfully served indigent clients across the country in a wide variety of pro bono matters, including securing civil rights and access to housing; representing children, parents, and vulnerable adults in custody disputes; ensuring appropriate outreach efforts for veterans; and filing disability claims for disabled homeless veterans. In addition, we partner with our corporate clients to provide legal services and training on legal topics to public interest organizations.

Asylum Representation

We obtained a pro bono victory for a client who sought asylum after fleeing his country after security forces severely beat, tortured, and unlawfully detained him. Jackson Lewis attorneys drafted comprehensive briefing and presented extensive evidence to support the client’s asylum application. At the conclusion of the hearing, the Immigration Court granted the client asylum.
