Sidney O. Minter of Jackson Lewis is Honored by Chambers for Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Raleigh, NC (June 12, 2019) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, congratulates Sidney O. Minter, who was named a winner of the Chambers 2019 “Future Leader – Minority Lawyers” award, honoring law firm associates who are leading the way in their commitment to minorities’ diversity and inclusion. The award was presented at a ceremony in San Francisco on Thursday, June 6 as part of the Chambers Diversity and Inclusion Awards program. The award was created by the publisher of the Chambers and Partners legal directories to celebrate in-house and private practice trailblazers who are actively furthering the advancement of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

“As a firm we ask our attorneys to be intentional in their diversity and inclusion efforts, and Sidney’s actions, character and outlook define this tenet,” said Jana Simon, Jackson Lewis’ Director of Diversity & Inclusion. “Since Sidney joined Jackson Lewis, he has proven himself a strong advocate for expanding the paths and advancing the careers of attorneys of color, and we know this is just the beginning for Sidney.”

An Associate in Jackson Lewis’ Raleigh, NC office, Mr. Minter has litigated matters relating to wage and hour law, workplace safety law, and workers’ compensation. He has a particular depth of experience handling complex matters arising under Title VII and regularly partners with his clients to provide sound day-to-day advice regarding a myriad of issues, including terminations, RIFs, hiring and leaves of absence.

Mr. Minter is a member of the firm’s African American Attorney Resource Group, in addition to his diversity and inclusion efforts outside of the firm. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Minorities in the Profession Committee (MIP), whose mission is to support, educate, advocate for, and increase the presence of minority attorneys in North Carolina. In 2018 and 2019, Mr. Minter co-chaired the MIP’s Pre-Law Conference, which targets minority high school and college students interested in a legal career.

Mr. Minter is also a member of the National Bar Association (NBA), having recently moderated a panel at the NBA’s 2018 Labor and Employment Section Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. His additional professional associations and activities include the National Employment Law Council, where he serves on the Annual Conference Committee; and the North Carolina Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Division Liaison for Corporate Counsel Section, where he is responsible for working directly with the Corporate Counsel Section and reporting to the North Carolina Bar Association’s Executive Committee regarding its activities. His pro bono and community activities include his former role as President and current role as member of the Burlington Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. During his tenure as President, Mr. Minter organized fundraisers to bring awareness to domestic violence, organized clothing drives and coordinated sponsoring families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. He has also served as a Co-Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s 4-All Day of Service since 2017.

“My passion for diversity and inclusion stems from my desire to foster change in the legal profession,” said Mr. Minter. “After graduating from law school and becoming an attorney, I vowed to be a resource for students and young professionals who come to me for guidance. It is my duty to pass along my experiences to younger generations, and I’m honored to be recognized for this commitment.”

Mr. Minter has received numerous awards, including: Black Enterprise’s “Modern Man” designation (2018); Business North Carolina’s “Legal Elite in Employment Law” list (2018-2019); Charlotte Business Journal’s Top 40 under 40 list (2018); National Black Lawyers “Top 100” list (2016-2018); North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” list (2017); North Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Stars (2018-2019); and the Wake County Bar Association’s Charles Brandon Hunt Leadership Award (2016).
