Elyse K. Culberson
Elyse K. Culberson is of counsel in the Detroit, Michigan, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Her practice focuses exclusively on partnering with clients in workplace law matters, including litigation, administrative proceedings, and day-to-day employment counseling.
Elyse defends employers in single and multi-plaintiff matters arising under a broad range of federal and state employment laws, including the ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA, Title VII, and their Michigan counterparts, as well as the Michigan’s Whistleblowers’ Protection Act and related common-law claims. She represents clients in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels, as well as in arbitration proceedings. Elyse has successfully attained summary judgment on behalf of clients and has served as first and second chair in jury and bench trials.
Beyond litigation, Elyse represents employers before administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Michigan Department of Civil Rights. She also provides strategic, practical counseling on a wide range of workplace law issues, including employee handbooks and policies, as well as discipline and discharge matters.
A strong advocate for the advancement of women in the legal profession, Elyse is actively involved with the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM), where she serves on the Board of Directors and various committees. She is also a past president of the Women’s Bar Association, the Oakland County regional chapter of WLAM.
During law school, Elyse received awards for her performance in Employee Rights and Counseling and Negotiations. In addition to her studies, Elyse was an executive director of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Moot Court Board of Advocates, a member of Law Review, and participated in the Criminal Trial Clinic, where she represented indigent defendants in various criminal matters.
