Jacob Maginn is an associate in the Chicago, Illinois, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Jake advises employers nationwide on navigating the increasingly complex landscape of employment law, helping organizations manage risk, resolve disputes efficiently, and build sustainable compliance strategies across a variety of sectors, from highly regulated industries, such as transportation, to fast-moving service and professional environments, like restaurants and manufacturing.

While Jake focuses on helping clients avoid costly disputes by providing day-to-day advice on employee relations, policy development, and compliance initiatives, he also has extensive experience defending claims under federal statues such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Title VII, and the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA), as well as a wide range of state and local employment laws across a broad spectrum of jurisdictions.

Jake also represents clients in restrictive covenant and trade secret disputes, helping organizations protect confidential information, structure enforceable employment agreements, and navigate disputes involving non-competition, non-solicitation, and confidentiality obligations. Jake understands the urgency of these matters and is equipped to guide clients through what can be stressful and potentially business-altering disputes. Jake stands ready to help his clients protect their confidential business information and recover damages when that information is misused or misappropriated.

In addition, Jake guides employers through federal and state agency audits, helping his clients develop strategies that limit the scope of regulatory inquiries, tailor responses to limit exposure, and negotiate down any assessed fines, all while helping his clients understand the impacts of regulatory involvement on their strategic goals.

Prior to law school, Jake worked in the social services where he often had to build trust with his clients, many of whom were deeply mistrusting of the institutions that he represented, a dynamic often present in employment disputes. As an attorney, Jake uses these experiences and skills to build trust among adversaries in order to reach positive outcomes in otherwise intractable disputes.

Before joining Jackson Lewis, Jake practiced commercial litigation at a large law firm. He earned his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of law, cum laude, and his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. During law school, Jake externed for Chief Judge Virginia Kendall of the United States District Court, Northern Illinois, and served as a Lead Articles Editor of the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal
