Matthew R. Tavares

Matthew R. Tavares is of counsel in the Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. His practice focuses on representing employers in all aspects of workplace matters from preventative advice and counseling to litigation.

In his practice, Matt advises clients on strategies to resolve conflicts early, when possible, but is experienced litigator when resolution is not possible. Throughout his career, Matt has litigated in both state and federal courts on behalf of employers involving workplace discrimination, retaliation, harassment, hostile work environment, and whistle blower claims. He has also represented clients before the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Additionally, Matt has advocated before the Appellate Division and New Jersey State Supreme Court where he has obtained many positive results for his clients.

Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, P.C., Matt represented public entities and municipalities throughout the State of New Jersey on various matters mostly involving employment litigation and counseling. He advised clients throughout the litigation process as well as regarding handling workplace investigations and disciplinary matters. He also presented trainings to municipal employers on workplace issues including harassment and discrimination issues.

To begin his legal career, Matt served as judicial law clerk for the Honorable H. Matthew Curry, J.S.C. in the Superior Court of New Jersey in Hunterdon County.
