Maureen M. Duffy is of counsel in the Silicon Valley, California, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Maureen’s enduring interest in employment law fuels a steadfast dedication to delivering practical, high-quality legal counsel and advocacy for organizations.

Maureen’s practice is rooted in fostering positive, long-term professional relationships with companies and organizations, and supporting their organizational goals through tailored, common-sense solutions. Maureen appreciates how serious litigation can be for companies and considers herself a member of a business’ team as she guides employers through the compliance hurdles of workplace law. Maureen represents employers in state and federal court, as well as in arbitration and mediation in a variety of areas of employment law, including claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, failure to accommodate disabilities, defamation, breach of contract, fraud, failure to pay wages and other statutory and common law claims. She also represents employers before state and federal agencies, including the Department of Labor Standards Enforcement, the California Civil Rights Department, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Drawing on her previous in-house experience at IBM and MetLife, Maureen has firsthand insight into the day-to-day issues employers face. Maureen provides advice and counsel to employers, emphasizing preventive strategies to manage litigation risks proactively. Maureen advises employers on the multitude of issues arising under the employment relationship, including hiring and termination, leaves of absence, workplace investigations, workplace violence prevention, litigation avoidance, and compliance with EEO requirements. Beginning her career in Silicon Valley, Maureen continues to leverage her knowledge to support businesses in a range of industries including health care, financial services, manufacturing, retail, and hi-tech organizations from startups to Fortune 50 companies.

An experienced speaker and teacher, Maureen has developed and led classes on prevention of sexual harassment and discrimination, reductions in force and alternative dispute resolution, and she has given numerous presentations on specialized areas of labor and employment law, including wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, and privacy compliance.
