Melissa Caulum Williams iis a principal in the Madison, Wisconsin, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Melissa partners with employers to navigate complex workplace challenges, providing practical, business-focused counsel that aligns legal strategies with organizational goals. Drawing on extensive in-house and private practice experience, she helps clients address sensitive employment matters while minimizing operational and reputational risk.

Melissa advises employers on a broad range of labor and employment issues, including employee relations, workplace investigations, disability and leave compliance, pay equity, employment agreements, and crisis management. She regularly works with executives, boards of directors, human resources professionals, and business leaders to develop proactive strategies for managing workforce issues and making informed employment decisions. 

Melissa is particularly experienced in helping organizations navigate high-stakes situations involving sensitive allegations, internal investigations, and matters that may affect business continuity or public perception. Her approach combines practical legal guidance with an understanding of the human and organizational dynamics that often accompany workplace disputes. 

Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Melissa served as associate general counsel for a company providing products and services to the insurance, financial services, and credit union industries. This experience gives her firsthand insight into the business and operational challenges employers face and informs her practical, solutions-oriented approach to client service. 

Melissa also served as a Note & Comment Editor for the Wisconsin Law Review while attending law school. Outside of her practice, she remains active in the legal and business communities through leadership and networking initiatives that support in-house counsel and professional development.

Representative Experience

  • Advised C-suite executives, boards of directors, and business leaders on labor and employment matters affecting workforces across all 50 states and internationally. 
  • Led sensitive internal workplace investigations involving executive leadership, board members, and other high-profile stakeholders. 
  • Counseled employers on labor and employment issues arising during highly sensitive investigations, crisis situations, and matters involving significant reputational concerns. 
  • Managed employment litigation, administrative agency matters, arbitrations, and appeals in jurisdictions nationwide. 
  • Guided employers through pay equity reviews and compliance with federal and state employment laws, including disability and leave requirements. 
  • Drafted and negotiated executive employment, separation, retention, restrictive covenant, and settlement agreements.
