Michael Brian Taylor
Michael B. Taylor is of counsel in the New Orleans, Louisiana, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Michael works diligently not only to practice law, but to understand the workplace law trends and issues affecting the businesses he represents, allowing him to take a forward-thinking, problem-solving approach to workplace disputes built on collaboration.
Leveraging his commitment to learning and experience distinguishes Michael as an intuitive legal counselor and advocate. He guides local and national employers in the healthcare, financial services, and education industries through multi-jurisdictional challenges, delivering legally sound solutions that achieve immediate goals and support long-term business strategies. What sets Michael apart is his ability to anticipate and prevent legal issues before they arise. He supports clients through a wide range of litigation and investigations, including race, age, sex, and disability discrimination, as well as matters before the EEOC. Recognizing that confronting day-to-day and cyclical workplace issues often prevents legal problems down the road, Michael applies this philosophy to his practice when counseling and crafting compliant workplace policies.
Michael is a go-to resource for employers seeking practical guidance on emerging workplace challenges. He advises on critical issues like workplace violence prevention, disability and leave management, and keeps clients ahead of the curve on evolving federal and state laws. His work includes helping organizations navigate compliance with the PUMP Act and the CROWN Act, ensuring policies are not only strategically compliant but also inclusive and responsive to employee needs.
Michael also advises hospitals and health care systems on particularly complex matters related to Medicare and employee staffing and retention, in addition to commonplace workplace disputes involving wage and hour issues, employee safety actions, and workplace discrimination claims stemming from performance issues related to Medicare and Medicaid billing and coding errors.
It was the 2008 financial crisis that catapulted Michael into the practice of employment law as clients sought advice regarding business restructuring and termination issues. Since that time and before joining Jackson Lewis, Michael has advised hospitals and health service entities on Medicare reimbursement and its potential impact on future employment decisions. Michael also counseled technology startups, service organizations, charter schools, and advertising companies, and brings that sector experience to bear when devising creative and industry-specific strategies for employers today.
Michael began his career as a judicial law clerk for the Hennepin County District Court in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In addition to having his own practice, he has lectured on business law and constitutional law at South Dakota State University, as well as employment law and pharmacy ethics at Xavier University in New Orleans.
