SHRM LI Special Session: New York State Pay Transparency Bill

Last month, Governor Kathy Hochul signed a statewide salary transparency bill into law. This law covers all New York State private sector employers including any employees working remotely in their homes within the state. Although this law is mostly consistent with the NYC Salary Transparency Law, it differs in some important respects. The law is set to go in effect on or about September 17, 2023. While there is more guidance to follow from New York State and changes to the final law are likely, all employers would do well to prepare for the general concepts behind this law now.
