Jackson Lewis Enhances Commitment to Diversity

WASHINGTON, D.C., (October 24, 2011) – Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, announced that Washington D.C. Region Partner Michael R. Hatcher has been appointed internal Diversity Manager.  Hatcher, currently a senior member of the firm’s Corporate Diversity Counseling Group, has over 15 years experience advising clients addressing diversity controversies and enhancing diversity programs and performance. 

“As interim Diversity Manager, Mike will focus on empowering our five Attorney Resource Groups: African American, Hispanic, Asian American, Women, and GLBT, by developing annual action plans and monitoring results during regular meetings and conference calls with the members of each group,” says Weldon H. Latham, Chair of the Corporate Diversity Counseling Group as well as the firm’s Diversity Committee.  “He will also assist me to improve our internal and external diversity and inclusion communications, and in other efforts related to our goal of emphasizing inclusion and respect for the contribution of every partner, counsel, associate and employee in the firm.”

Mr. Hatcher regularly represents a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 corporations to government agencies, in corporate diversity, employment law and government relations.  He provides diversity, employment counseling, and crisis management services to organizations seeking to enhance their diversity programs, performance, and profile.  He is skilled at reviewing and assessing existing policies and procedures; enhancing programs aimed at recruiting and retaining talented employees (e.g., mentoring, Employee Resource Groups, career development counseling); and recommending changes in the structure and management of diversity programs.

Mr. Hatcher assists companies in developing and implementing comprehensive diversity action plans; compliance with federal, state, and local non-discrimination requirements; EEOC and OFCCP audits and investigations; supplier diversity; outreach and communication efforts; and diversity-related government relations.  He often conducts internal investigations of alleged misconduct related to discrimination, harrassment, hostile work environment, and retaliation.  He leads enterprise-wide assessments of corporate diversity efforts and recommends enhancements to institutionalize diversity in every aspect of an organization’s operations.

Mr. Hatcher served as Deputy General Counsel of the National Coalition of Minority Business (NCMB), where he focused on protecting and expanding federal legislation and policies that provide opportunities for small, minority and women-owned businesses in federal contracting. 

Mr. Hatcher is a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia, the Maryland State Bar, and the Bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is admitted to practice law before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal and District of Columbia Circuits, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

Mr. Hatcher is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center.  He received an A.B. in Government, cum laude, from Dartmouth College, and a J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center.
