Jackson Lewis Earns #16 Spot on The American Lawyer's Diversity Scorecard

NEW YORK, NY (June 14, 2022) Nationwide employment law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. is pleased to announce the firm jumped to #16 on The American Lawyer’s 2022 Diversity Scorecard, moving up 60 spots from the previous year. The Scorecard ranks law firms based on percentage of diverse lawyers in their U.S. offices.

“The key to moving to our upward trajectory is our renewed focus on strategically building equitable systems and inclusion-oriented programming,” said Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer and Principal Kimya S.P. Johnson. “The Scorecard’s new metric embraces the often more difficult work of expanding opportunities for fuller inclusion and access for diverse-identifying attorneys.”

“We believe we improved our ranking due to our intentional efforts to create pathways for long-term success of our diverse attorney talent, build systems and policies that reflect DEI as a core value, ensure representation of attorneys in various racial/ethnic minority groups, and promote the importance of the diversity of our executive committee, office leaders and practice heads,” continued Kimya.

“We are very proud of our score this year, which is a testament to the firm’s inclusive culture,” said Firm Chair Kevin G. Lauri. “With the addition of Kimya as chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer and the creation of a dedicated DEI team, our focus and momentum have only increased, and we look forward to more progress in the near future.”

This year, instead of evaluating firms on just headcount figures, The American Lawyer revised its methodology to provide a more comprehensive picture of diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at law firms. The publication determined scores by ranking firms in a series of metrics assessing their racial and ethnic diversity across three distinct categories: Firm Leadership, Equity Partners and Other Attorneys. Diversity Score is determined by combining the three scores created by these rankings and dividing the total by the number of metrics applicable for each firm.
