Jackson Lewis Expands Presence in Austin, Texas

WHITE PLAINS, NY (October 5, 2011) - Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, announced it has opened a new office in Austin TX.  The Austin office is the firm’s 47th office nationwide and its 3rd office in Texas.  Three immigration attorneys from the Austin office of Greenberg Traurig have joined Jackson Lewis.  A. Robert Fischer, a long-tenured Jackson Lewis partner from Stamford CT, will relocate to join the new office in Texas and Michael DePonte, a partner in our Dallas office will split his time between the two offices.

Kevin Lashus will be the Managing Partner of the Austin office.  Mr. Lashus, formerly Of Counsel at Greenberg Traurig, focuses his practice on U.S. Immigration and Nationality law.  He will be joined by his fellow immigration law colleagues Maggie Murphy and Sujata Ajmera.  Ms. Murphy will join as a Partner and Ms. Ajmera will join as an Associate. Mr. Fischer will continue as co-chair of the firm’s Trade Secret, Non-Compete and Workplace Technology group and focus his practice in this area.  All four attorneys are graduates of The University of Texas School of Law.

“We are very excited about our strategic expansion in Texas,” said Patrick L. Vaccaro, firm-wide Managing Partner.  “We had been considering a move into Austin for some time and with Kevin and his team, we found the right group of laterals to make it happen.  We are honored these distinguished practitioners have joined our firm and will be working closely with our Global Immigration Group.  They will ably serve our clients in Texas and throughout the Southwest, as well as expand this practice area throughout the U.S.  The importance of having Rob Fischer, a Jackson Lewis senior litigator, join this group from the very beginning cannot be overstated. Kevin gets one of our best to help him and Rob gets to fulfill his desire of practicing in Austin, Texas home of his alma mater – The University of Texas.”

Added Mr. Lashus, “Maggie, Suj and I are very enthusiastic about joining Jackson Lewis and embarking upon the next chapter in our careers.  We are very familiar with the firm’s immigration practice and are looking forward to joining forces to strengthen our presence throughout the state and region.  With Rob joining us, we not only join forces with an expert in one of the firm’s major practice areas, but get one of the firm’s most accomplished employment litigators.  We are also looking forward to working closely with Mike, who is a very experienced employment litigator with a wide range of workplace law experience.

In addition to his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law where he is also an Adjunct Professor, Mr. Lashus received his B.A. from Stanford University.  He is designated as a 2011 Texas Super Lawyer Rising Star.  He is a published author who writes frequently about immigration issues in numerous distinguished legal journals.  Ms. Murphy, who received her B.A. summa cum laude from St. Edward’s University, is also a Texas Super Lawyer Rising Star.  Ms. Ajmera received her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin.  All three of the Austin-based immigration attorneys are Board Certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
