Jackson Lewis Recognized for Diversity Initiatives

WHITE PLAINS, NY (November 7, 2011) - Jackson Lewis LLP, one of the country’s largest and fastest-growing workplace law firms, is pleased to announce that Target has awarded the firm its 2011 Law Firm Diversity Award for outside counsel.  The award, which was presented on October 25th at Target’s Employee and Labor Relations legal conference in Minneapolis, recognizes firms that demonstrate an actionable commitment to enhancing opportunities for diverse and female attorneys in the legal profession.

“We could not be more pleased to accept this award from Target, a true leader in the corporate world,” said Washington D. C. Region Partner Weldon H. Latham, Chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee as well as Jackson Lewis’ Corporate Diversity Counseling Group.  “Like Target, Jackson Lewis understands that recruiting, retaining and developing a workforce that reflects the diversity of communities and clients we serve is critical to long-term success.”

Birmingham office Managing Partner Thomas A. Davis said: “This award is a true testament to the firm’s increased focus on inclusion efforts, and we are proud to be recognized for promoting an environment where diversity is valued by everyone.”

“Target has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion within its own organization and from its corporate partners,” added Minneapolis Partner Antone Melton-Meaux.   “We are thrilled to be recognized by Target, a company truly at the vanguard of the Minneapolis corporate community.”
Last year the law department of Sodexo Inc. recognized Jackson Lewis as a Diversity Leader based on the firm’s expansive diversity policies and programs and its significant representation of women and minorities at all levels of the firm.

The firm has recently made significant headway towards enhancing its commitment to diversity and inclusion, beginning with naming Latham Chair of the internal Diversity Committee.  Shortly after, the firm enlisted the services of Diverse Attorney Recruiter Ron Jordan of Carter-White & Shaw LLC, who devotes his efforts to seeking diverse Partners, Of Counsel and Associates for all of Jackson Lewis’ 47 offices nationwide. In addition, Washington D.C. Region Partner Michael R. Hatcher has been appointed the firm’s internal Diversity Manager.  Hatcher, a senior member of the firm’s Corporate Diversity Counseling Group, will focus on empowering the firm’s Attorney Resource Groups and improving internal and external diversity and inclusion communications.
