Susan M. Corcoran Named a Volunteer of the Year Honoree by Pro Bono Partnership

NEW YORK, NY (September 23, 2022) Nationwide employment law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. is pleased to announce White Plains Principal Susan M. Corcoran has been named a 2022 Volunteer of the Year (VOTY) honoree by Pro Bono Partnership. The VOTY award honors the dedication and commitment of volunteers across each of the organization’s program areas in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. The honorees are dedicated volunteers who have worked with the organization for at least 25 years and have collectively addressed hundreds of nonprofit legal matters that have made a tremendous impact on the community. Susan was one of four honorees celebrated at the Pro Bono Partnership’s 25th Anniversary Gala, at Cipriani 42nd Street on Thursday, September 22.

“Throughout Susan’s legal career, she has made particularly impressive pro bono contributions and we applaud her dedication to serving her community,” said Firm Chair Kevin G. Lauri. "Jackson Lewis’ collective pro bono efforts ensure we are providing representation to individuals and organizations in the communities where we live and practice. Susan’s efforts are exemplary and reflect one of the firm’s core values —increasing access to justice for all.”

Susan is a seasoned employment counselor and litigator for national workplace law issues. She is a co-leader of the firm’s Background Checks group and serves as a resource on fair credit reporting act issues, as well as “ban the box” strategies. Susan taught a graduate employment law class for many years at Manhattanville College and frequently speaks before different groups on a variety of workplace law issues. She served two terms as New York State SHRM Legislative Director. She has served on local nonprofit boards and currently is President of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association Foundation.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the Pro Bono Partnership and I am very proud to be part of a network that provides vital support to nonprofit organizations across the tri-state area,” said Susan. “It is rewarding to receive this recognition alongside others who share a passion for such important work.”

Susan has been involved with Pro Bono Partnership since its early beginnings and was also recognized by the organization in 2003, and later in 2008, receiving the First Decade Award for Distinguished Service. Pro Bono Partnership is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works with corporate and law firm attorneys to provide free legal services to other nonprofits in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. The Partnership’s Volunteers of the Year recipients are notable for the number of pro bono projects undertaken, their willingness to accept new projects, their enthusiasm for the Partnership’s program, and their commitment to pro bono service.

Susan earned her J.D. from Pace University and her B.S. from Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
