Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is more important than ever in today’s workforce. Employees, customers, regulatory agencies and legislators are demanding accountability in DEI programs. The emphasis on social justice in the workplace has left employers struggling with attrition, systemic complaints about workplace culture, and more recently, reverse discrimination claims.

Join Jackson Lewis P.C. attorneys for a lively discussion about how employers can meet today’s demands and plan for the future. The program will be followed by a reception where attendees can share their challenges and successes in the DEI space, and enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Agenda

Topics
Where Did Everyone Go? The Great Resignation and How to Recruit and Retain Talent

Approximately 47 million employees quit their jobs in 2021. From remote work policies to higher salaries and demands for social justice work, the workplace has radically evolved since the pandemic. During this session, we will discuss the reasons so many employees have left their jobs, whether they sought out new opportunities or chose to leave the workforce and what employers can do to recruit and retain in today’s labor market.

What Did They Say? Generational Diversity in the Workforce
From the Traditionalists to Gen Z, there are now five generations in the workplace. The financial and social events that dominated each generation’s formative years also shaped the way they work and communicate and what they expect from their employers. In this session we will explore how these generational differences are affecting the workplace, offer strategies to bridge communication gaps and discuss ways that employers can adapt to the demands of the newest generations.

What Do I Do Now? Practical Solutions for Employers to Implement DEI Strategies
Employers of all sizes and industries are hearing demands for accountability in DEI programs, but DEI cannot be a check-the-box exercise. It is critical that those demands are met with a deliberate, thoughtful and tailored approach. In this session, we will explore a variety of practical strategies for responding to calls for DEI in the workplace – from creating pipelines and employee resource groups, to addressing climate-related barriers to inclusion, to implementing enterprise-wide equity audits.

What Do We See for the Future? Evolution of DEI in the Workplace
The DEI imperative is constantly evolving. Calls for social justice are coming from every stakeholder, but recently they have also been challenged as discriminatory themselves. In this session we will discuss what the law says about DEI initiatives, weighing legal risk against the benefits and how to respond to those who claim DEI initiatives constitute reverse discrimination.
