Former EEOC Legal Counsel Andrew F. Maunz Joins Jackson Lewis in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA (February 3, 2021) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, is pleased to announce Andrew F. Maunz has joined Jackson Lewis’ Pittsburgh office as of counsel. Andrew joins the firm from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) as legal counsel, where he oversaw the internal and external policy for the nation's leading civil rights agency.

“Drew is a noteworthy addition to the firm, especially during this pivotal and unprecedented time for employers,” said Co-Leader of the firm’s Disability, Leave and Health Management group Francis P. Alvarez. “While working for the EEOC, Drew provided extensive guidance to the public on COVID-19 and laws such as the ADA and Title VII. Our clients expect us to see around corners; Andrew’s experience and insight will help us do just that.”

While at the EEOC, Andrew led the agency’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC), the principal advisor to the Commission on all matters, except for litigation initiated by the General Counsel. Andrew oversaw the office in drafting regulations, guidance and technical assistance documents, conducted outreach and education efforts, and coordinated on behalf of the EEOC on all federal issues affecting equal employment opportunity.  During his tenure, OLC provided the public compliance assistance related to COVID-19, published a final rule updating the EEOC’s conciliation procedures, finalized an update of the compliance manual on religious discrimination, and much more. Preceding his time leading OLC, Andrew worked at the EEOC as a special assistant to then-Chair Janet Dhillon. In this role, he advised the Chair on legal and policy matters.

“Drew has a strong technical understanding of complex topics related to the laws the EEOC enforces,” said Stephanie L. Adler-Paindiris and Nadine C. Abrahams, co-leaders of the firm’s General Employment Litigation group. “His unique perspectives and insights will be a great asset to our clients, especially on emerging and under-developed issues such as gender pay equity, unconscious bias, and COVID-related ADA issues. We feel fortunate to land a talent like Drew and expect he will make an immediate and lasting impact on our firm’s litigation and advice practices.”

Prior to joining the EEOC, Andrew served as a senior attorney in the Office of the General Counsel of the Social Security Administration. At the Social Security Administration, he provided legal advice on employment and administrative law matters and represented the agency in employment litigation in federal courts as a Department of Justice Special Assistant United States Attorney and in administrative proceedings.

“We are thrilled to welcome Drew to Jackson Lewis and believe that he will be an exceptional asset to the firm and our clients,” said Pittsburgh Office Managing Principal and Office Litigation Manager Marla N. Presley. "Drew’s depth and breadth of experience with matters involving employment discrimination violations will help employers proactively manage risk and have the best workplaces possible.”

Andrew earned his J.D. magna cum laude from University of Toledo College of Law, attending on a full academic scholarship, and his B.A. from Miami University.
