Jackson Lewis Continues to Strengthen Employee Benefits Practice with Addition of C. John Wentzell, Jr.

GREENVILLE, SC (February 27, 2019) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, is pleased to announce C. John Wentzell, Jr. has joined the firm’s expanding Employee Benefits practice as a Principal in the Greenville office. Mr. Wentzell joins the firm from Ogletree Deakins where he focused his practice on employee benefits law, ERISA and taxation matters.
 
“Johnny is a talented attorney and significant addition to Jackson Lewis,” said Joy M. Napier-Joyce, Leader of the firm’s Employee Benefits Practice Group. “His breadth of knowledge in a wide variety of employee benefits issues will serve as a tremendous resource to our clients. Mr. Wentzell assists clients with all types of employer-sponsored employee benefit plans, including 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, profit sharing plans, defined benefit pension plans, 457(b) and 457(f) plans for both tax exempt and governmental employers, equity compensation plans, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, health and welfare benefit plans, and ERISA severance plans.  He helps clients with the design and drafting of benefit plans, advises clients on the legal requirements of operating and administering plans, and represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. He also frequently advises clients regarding their fiduciary duties under ERISA.

Mr. Wentzell has significant experience with bonus and incentive compensation programs, and he advises clients regarding tax and employee benefits aspects of employment, severance, and change in control agreements. Mr. Wentzell represents a wide variety of organizations, including public and privately held companies across all industry sectors, state and local governmental organizations, and tax exempt organizations, such as large hospital systems.

Mr. Wentzell earned his B.B.A. from the University of Georgia, his J.D. from the University of South Carolina and his LL.M. from New York University.
