Maurice G. Jenkins Named a Trailblazer Honoree by D. Augustus Straker Bar Association

SOUTHFIELD, MI (July 30, 2021) Nationwide employment law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. is pleased to announce Maurice G. Jenkins has been named a 2021 Trailblazer Honoree by the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association. Maurice was honored as a leader in the legal industry for his efforts to increase minority representation in the legal profession, encouraging opportunities for diverse attorneys and facilitating equal justice for all citizens.

“We are extremely proud of Maurice’s recognition as a 2021 Trailblazer Honoree,” said Weldon H. Latham, founder and leader of the Corporate Diversity Counseling practice group, leader of Jackson Lewis’ internal Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and a member of the firm’s Board of Directors. “He is a talented trial attorney who is dedicated to his local community. It is inspiring to see him recognized for his efforts to provide meaningful professional development opportunities for those who are often underrepresented in the legal profession.”

Maurice is a principal in the Detroit office of Jackson Lewis. He has practiced labor and employment law for more than 30 years and is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. As a trial lawyer, he has first chaired jury trials, labor and civil rights arbitrations, NLRB hearings and state civil rights administrative cases on behalf of employers in such business sectors as automotive (OEM; Tier .5-4 suppliers and retail), life sciences manufacturing, international, national and regional consumer retailers, information technology, telecommunications, gaming, and financial services. He also advises and represents employers with respect to strategic labor relations matters, collective bargaining and NLRB litigation.

Additionally, Maurice has conducted investigations of workplace fatalities, improper conduct on the part of procurement agents, and alleged workplace harassment. He has also handled whistleblower investigations and litigation, investigated alleged financial reporting improprieties, provided assessments and advice with respect to establishing and maintaining effective employee “hotlines” and other internal reporting structures, and evaluated conflict of interest guidelines implemented by various multinational companies. Maurice, who formerly served as a member of the ABA’s Task Force on Section 307 of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), has also handled internal investigations and litigation arising under SOX.

Prior to his legal career, Maurice was a financial and tax analyst at General Motors Corporation and after graduating from law school, he advanced to become GM’s chief NLRB litigation counsel before embarking on a career in private practice. Maurice earned his J.D. and B.A. from Michigan State University.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition from the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association,” said Maurice. “I find myself in good company, surrounded by other legal visionaries who are fully devoted to making an impact on the lives of others. Supporting diverse students and attorneys has always been important to me, and it is necessary they have the tools to achieve the success they have worked so hard for.”

The D. Augustus Straker Bar Association was formed on October 4, 1990, as a special purpose bar association recognized by the State Bar of Michigan. It is also an affiliate of the National Bar Association.  Membership includes a racially diverse coalition of lawyers, judges, in-house counsel and other legal professionals, with a particular focus on attorneys who live, work, or practice in Oakland County, Michigan.

The mission of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association is to increase minority representation in the legal profession, support and encourage legal practice opportunities for minorities, and facilitate equal justice for all citizens.
