Michelle E. Phillips Named Diversity & Inclusion Champion by New York City Bar Association

NEW YORK, NY (October 31, 2022) Nationwide employment law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. is pleased to announce Principal Michelle E. Phillips has been recognized as a 2022 Diversity & Inclusion Champion Award winner by the New York City Bar Association. The annual Award seeks to recognize individuals whose actions and activities within New York City's legal community embody and advance the New York City Bar’s Statement of Diversity Principles. Diversity champions are critical for creating lasting change in organizations and establishing an inclusive work environment.

“Michelle has been a longstanding DEI advocate and continues to make strides in her efforts at Jackson Lewis and in the community,” said Firm Chair Kevin G. Lauri. "Throughout her time at the firm, Michelle has sparked important conversations about allyship in the workplace, and how to implement these strategies both internally and within the legal industry. Her work has been critical for creating lasting change in organizations and establishing more inclusive work environments.” 

Michelle is an attorney in the firm’s White Plains, NY, office and is a member of the firm's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and the founder and Chair of the Out Professionals and Allies in Law attorney resource group. She handles various types of employment litigation with an emphasis on sexual, racial and disability harassment, and LGBTQ+ matters. Michelle also counsels clients on a variety of labor and employment matters concerning federal and state employment laws. She frequently conducts and advises clients on internal investigations and leads seminars and webinars for a broad range of clients focusing on employment discrimination, diversity, sexual harassment and LGBTQ+ issues.

Michelle is a featured speaker at HRNY, NY and CT SHRM, ACC Corporate Counsel, Out & Equal Workplace Conference and other prominent organizations. Michelle conducts training on race, ethnic, intergenerational, interfaith, LGBTQ+ & other inclusion issues. She is a national speaker on such issues as an employer's duty to accommodate the sincerely held religious beliefs of employees, sexual stereotyping in the workplace, and respecting each individual's gender identity and expression.
