Susan Friedfel Joins Jackson Lewis in White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, NY (June 21, 2016) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, has added Principal Susan D. Friedfel to its White Plains office.  Ms. Friedfel was formerly Co-Chair of Proskauer’s Higher Education Practice Group.

“Susan is well-connected and respected in both the White Plains and New York City business communities, and we are thrilled to add her experience to our New York roster,” said Joseph A. Saccomano, Jr., Office Managing Principal in White Plains.  “Her well-rounded practice and extensive experience in all types of labor and employment matters add instant value to our client base in the region, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our team.”

“Susan is a well-known litigator whose higher education experience will be invaluable to us as we grow our Higher Education Group,” added Thomas Dorer and Monica H. Khetarpal, Leaders of Jackson Lewis’ Higher Education Group.  “She understands the unique challenges and pressures that face academia, and her addition is invaluable as we continue to help colleges and universities address the issues they face regularly in the labor and employment law arena, as well as advice on student and academic affairs, athletics and risk and crisis management.”

In addition to litigating on behalf of and advising universities regarding employment issues, Ms. Friedfel advises clients regarding student claims of harassment, sexual assault, failure to accommodate disabilities, discrimination and retaliation and Title IX athletics compliance.  She represents universities in litigation brought by students and faculty and in OCR investigations, and also advises private schools and organizations that deal with children with respect to appropriate policies and procedures.

In addition to her work with colleges and universities, Ms. Friedfel also counsels clients in various industries, including law firms, financial institutions and not-for-profit organizations, on a wide array of issues including employee recruiting and hiring practices, family and medical leave, reasonable accommodations for disabilities and religion, preventing and investigating harassment, discrimination and whistleblower claims, wage and hour compliance, discipline and termination of employees and designing and implementing reductions in force.

Ms. Friedfel received her B.S. from Cornell University’s School of Industrial & Labor Relations and her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she was an Article Editor of the Harvard Negotiation Law Review.
