Hawkins has been recognized as a Top 40 Young Lawyer by the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Young Lawyers Division. The award recognizes ABA Young Lawyers Division members who exemplify a broad range of high achievement, innovation, vision, leadership, and service to the profession and their communities. Honorees are selected by a committee of practicing attorneys in private practice and in-house positions based on nominations.

Ms. Hawkins is an Associate in the Washington, D.C. Region office of Jackson Lewis. She has a blend of government and private practice experience representing government agencies and private employers in a wide array of employment litigation.

“Janea is a talented attorney who focuses on providing exemplary service to clients as well as giving back to her community,” said Washington, D.C. Region Office Managing Principal Michael H. Neifach. “She is an excellent example of someone who goes above and beyond in her practice and cultivates meaningful relationships within the community. We congratulate Janea on this well-deserved recognition.”

Ms. Hawkins regularly defends management before federal and state courts against claims of harassment, retaliation and discrimination, wrongful discharge and breach of contract issues, and covenant not to compete disputes. She has also represented employers in Department of Labor audits and Office Safety and Health Administration investigations. Additionally, she regularly counsels clients in best employment practices, affirmative action policies and compliance; and frequently conducts internal investigations into allegations of employee misconduct, including sexual harassment.

Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Ms. Hawkins worked with a small D.C. based employment litigation firm and as an assistant attorney general at the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia Personnel and Labor Relations Section, where she served as lead counsel in a wide array of employment matters before various administrative agencies and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

Ms. Hawkins earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law where she was a symposium editor and published member of the Public Interest Law Reporter. She was a recipient of the Cooney Conway Fellowship, a prestigious scholarship for law students that demonstrate great promise in trial advocacy and the Commencement Public Service Award.
