Renee Nunley Smith Joins Jackson Lewis in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA (October 19, 2022) Nationwide employment law firm Jackson Lewis P.C. is pleased to announce Renee Nunley Smith has joined the firm’s Philadelphia office as a principal. Renee brings with her a depth of experience with over 20 years in private practice, primarily representing public and private employers in labor and employment law matters.

“Renee has a strong track record of guiding clients through complex business matters,” said Corporate Governance and Internal Investigations group Co-Leaders Richard J. Cino and David R. Jimenez, in a joint statement. “Her incredible insight regarding institutions of higher education in civil rights and employment matters will greatly benefit the firm.”

Renee represents national, regional, and local business entities and institutions of higher education in civil rights and employment matters involving claims under federal and state law. She has extensive experience conducting internal investigations, including in matters where harassment and other forms of discrimination are at issue.

Renee’s experience with discrimination matters for educational institutions includes advising clients on the institutional response to sexual and gender-based harassment and violence, assisting educational institutions in meeting federal compliance obligations and responding to investigations by the Office for Civil Rights, and investigating highly sensitive student complaints pertaining to sexual assault, stalking, and gender-based discrimination and harassment.

Renee frequently represents employers before federal and state courts and before administrative agencies on matters involving harassment, discrimination, whistleblower and retaliation, wage and hour, breach of contract, and wrongful termination claims. Renee is also experienced in counseling clients on a variety of workplace issues, including employee hiring, performance management and termination, reductions in force, creating and implementing policies, and drafting various employment agreements.

“Renee has a great depth of knowledge in various areas of labor and employment law, and her higher education experience will be an asset to our team,” said Philadelphia Office Managing Principal Stephanie J. Peet. “We are committed to continued growth in Philadelphia, which allows us to represent clients seamlessly with our colleagues across the country. We are very excited that she has decided to join the firm.”

Renee earned her J.D. from Howard University School of Law and her B.A. from Drew University.
