Biography

DeAndrea C. Young is an Associate in the Houston, Texas, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Her practice focuses on representing public and private employers in workplace law matters, including preventive advice and counsel.

Ms. Young is a labor and employment practitioner who brings a client-driven approach to practicing law. She has successfully advised and represented public and private employers in a broad range of labor and employment matters, including individual and class litigation, appeals, and administrative agency proceedings involving breach of contract, state law wrongful discharge, discrimination and harassment, leave and disability management, and Fair Labor Standards Act claims. Ms. Young’s client-oriented approach allows her to help clients identify and diffuse potential lawsuits before they are filed.

While attending law school, Ms. Young served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Nancy F. Atlas, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas, and interned for the First Court of Appeals of Texas.

Representative Experience

  • Obtained several summary judgments involving a variety of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims in state and federal court against public and private employers.
  • Successfully represented public and private employers before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, obtaining dismissal of numerous employee charges of discrimination. 
  • Handles all aspects of employment litigation, including, but not limited to, representing clients at hearings; preparing motions and briefs; taking and defending depositions; preparing witnesses for deposition and trial; drafting and responding to all forms discovery; and negotiating settlement terms.
  • Second-chaired Texas Whistleblower Act retaliation trial, obtaining favorable jury verdict for public employer.
  • Assists clients with internal investigation of employee complaints and misconduct.
  • Counsels clients regarding discipline, performance, and disability leave management and assists in drafting and reviewing employee handbooks and various employment policies and practices.
