Biography

Jeffrey H. Newhouse is a Principal in the Richmond, Virginia, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Mr. Newhouse’s practice focuses on the preparation and trial of complex cases, primarily in the areas of class, collective, and representative actions. He has litigated cases across a wide range of industries, representing transportation companies, product manufacturers, call centers, food distributors, financial institutions, insurance companies, and a futures exchange.

Creative, strategic thinking is the hallmark of Mr. Newhouse’s representation of his clients. He uses innovative approaches to remove cases from state to federal court under the Class Action Fairness Act (CAFA), as he did in Alegre v. Atlantic Central Logistics, No. 15-2342 (D.N.J. 2015), and he brings the same vision to dispositive motions. In Taveras v. XPO Last Mile, No. 3:15-CV-01550-JAM (D. Conn. 2016), for example, Mr. Newhouse represented the defendant to defeat a plaintiff’s motion to dismiss a third-party complaint based on public policy arguments. In another matter, In re Aluminum Warehousing Antitrust Litigation, No. 1:13-md-02481 (S.D.N.Y. 2014), he played an integral role in helping a defendant obtain the dismissal of putative class claims based on an argument The AmLaw Litigation Daily described as “daring and novel.”

Mr. Newhouse has litigated cases at the trial and appellate level in state and federal courts across the country, including the Second, Third, Fifth, Seventh, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals. He also has arbitrated cases domestically and internationally.

Prior to joining Jackson Lewis as a Principal, Mr. Newhouse practiced at international law firms Winston & Strawn, in New York City, and Latham & Watkins, in Washington, D.C.
