Biography

Matthew Klein is an Associate in the Orlando, Florida, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, and since 2008, he worked in the labor and employment department of a state-wide firm where he represented management clients in a variety of employment issues.

Mr. Klein regularly works with clients to prevent or defend claims alleging discrimination, harassment or retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (gender, national origin, race, creed, color), the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, Florida’s Workers’ Compensation Act, Florida and local human rights laws, minimum wage and overtime violations under the Fair Labor Standards Act or the Florida Constitution, and other federal and Florida employment-related statutes or laws. He regularly defends public and private-sector clients with pending charges before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Florida Commission on Human Relations and unemployment compensation issues with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. He also advises and assists clients with the preparation of employee agreements, workplace policies, severance agreements, handbooks, non-compete agreements and general client requests. Mr. Klein’s practice includes providing training on workplace legal issues and prevention to management and employees. In addition to his employment experience, Mr. Klein has trial experience in a real estate fraud case, and a case defending the validity of a town building code ordinance.

Florida Governor Rick Scott appointed Mr. Klein to serve on the Ninth Judicial Circuit’s Judicial Nominating Commission, which interviews and selects judge candidates in Orange and Osceola counties for the Governor’s consideration. His term runs through July 2020, and he serves as the JNC’s chair through July 2019. Mr. Klein currently serves on the 2020 Orange County Charter Review Commission. This is his third time being appointed, previously serving on the 2012 and 2016 Commissions. The Charter Review Commission is tasked with performing a comprehensive review of county operations to propose amendments to the county’s charter to place on the general ballot.

In law school, Mr. Klein was appointed to serve as an associate justice on the Student Government’s Supreme Court to hear election disputes, and was a member of Florida Blue Key.
