Ryan Harrison, Sr.

Biography

Ryan Harrison, Sr. is an Associate in the Sacramento, California, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. He focuses on labor and employment litigation for public and private sector employers. Ryan has experience litigating labor disputes before the Public Employment Relations Board and prosecuting school district teacher dismissals before the Commission on Professional Competence. He is also an experienced investigator, having conducted hundreds of neutral investigations for public and private sector employers and for college campuses regarding issues of unlawful discrimination, retaliation, conflicts of interest, embezzlement, and government corruption.

Prior to his legal career, Ryan served as a dignitary protection law enforcement officer in the California State Senate, later returning to the institution as a policy consultant, and then becoming the principal internal investigator for the Senate Rules Committee during the height of the #MeToo movement.

During law school, Ryan externed for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California and competed on the #1 nationally ranked UC Hastings Moot Court competition team. He also co-founded a student legislative lobbying corps that helped secure a substantial apportionment to the law school enabling the construction of two new campus buildings and the renovation of a third.

Ryan is committed to serving his community. In addition to his service on multiple state and local boards, he has served as a Planning Commissioner and as a Board of Appeals Commissioner for the City of West Sacramento.

Ryan has been honored for his commitment to service and for his skill as a legal practitioner. He has received the “30 Under 30” honor from The Sacramento Observer newspaper (2011), “40 Under 40” honors from the Sacramento Business Journal (2017) and the National Black Lawyers (2021), and he is considered a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers (2021).

In 2017, California State University, Sacramento honored Mr. Harrison with its prestigious “Distinguished Alumni Rising Star” award.
