Theresa M. Marchlewski and Leonora M. Schloss Honored as “Most Influential Women Attorneys" by Los Angeles Business Journal

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 18, 2018) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, is pleased to announce Principals Theresa M. Marchlewski and Leonora M. Schloss have been recognized as two of Los Angeles’ “Most Influential Women Attorneys” by the Los Angeles Business Journal. The list honors 75 of the most influential women attorneys in Los Angeles.

"Los Angeles is truly a national leader when it comes to influential women – and the field of law is no exception," said Los Angeles Business Journal Publisher and CEO Anna Magzanyan. “These are the honorees we chose to recognize for exceptional legal skill and achievement across the full spectrum of responsibility, exemplary leadership as evidenced by the highest professional and ethical standards, and for contributions to the Los Angeles community at large."

Theresa M. Marchlewski has nearly 40 years of experience in all phases of employment and commercial litigation both jury and non-jury in the state and federal courts, handling age, disability, gender, national origin and race discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination claims. She has significant expertise in Sarbanes Oxley, ERISA and trade secret litigation, and matters involving bank operations, mortgage banking, broker-dealer and commercial litigation, unfair competition and real estate. Ms. Marchlewski also has significant expertise and experience in the electronic discovery process, having developed and implemented e-discovery guidelines and protocols to insure business understanding and compliance with electronic discovery obligations.

Ms. Marchlewski currently serves as President of the Santa Monica Bay Junior Bay Rowing Association and has been a member of its Board for the past 10 years. She is also a member of the Organization of Women Executives and volunteers as a Judge Pro-Tem for the Los Angeles Superior Court. Ms. Marchlewski received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her B.A. from the Catholic University of America.

Leonora M. Schloss focuses her practice on wage and hour and leaves of absence issues for more than 25 years. She advises and trains employers on preventative measures, drafts policies and agreements, conducts wage and hour classification audits and training, and handles employment investigations. Ms. Schloss has substantial experience litigating single plaintiff and class action discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and wage/hour cases in state and federal courts including jury and court trials. Ms. Schloss took a representative class action case to trial resulting in a dismissal of the representative class. That case resulted in a reported decision, which, for the first time, defined minimum wage calculation under California law and how it differs from federal law. Ms. Schloss has successfully asserted the federal enclave doctrine defense and proven lack of state law application in dozens of administrative and court matters, including two reported decisions.

Ms. Schloss is a past board member of Counsel for Justice, the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s charitable foundation, ending a three-year term in 2017. She is also a past board member at her synagogue, B’nai David-Judea Congregation, and Kol HaNearim, an organization which was devoted to providing developmentally challenged children access to Jewish schools. Ms. Schloss earned her J.D. from Columbia University and her B.A. from St. Louis University.
