Biography

Bridgette Nicole Thornton is a Of Counsel in the Miami, Florida, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Her practice focuses on representing employers in workplace law matters, including preventative advice and counseling.

Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Ms. Thornton served as the in-house general counsel of Our Kids of Miami-Dade/Monroe, Inc., where she oversaw the agency’s Title VII litigation and workplace law issues. She also provided advice and counsel in the agency’s restructuring of its executive team and board of trustees. Ms. Thornton also has experience representing parties before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and has defended cases involving claims of race, age, disability, sex, and national origin discrimination as well as claims of retaliatory discharge. She has also counseled clients on the legality of non-compete clauses in employment agreements.

Mrs. Thornton has litigated numerous complex civil rights cases arising under Section 1983 of the Civil Rights Act. Additionally, for several years, she has served as an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University’s College of Law where she teaches an advanced legal writing course.

While attending law school, Ms. Thornton served as an Executive Editor for the Black Letter Law Journal. After law school, she clerked for the Hon. Marcia G. Cooke of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
