Ryan M. Martin
Ryan M. Martin is a principal and the office litigation manager of the Louisville, Kentucky, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. He is also a principal in the firm’s Cincinnati, Ohio, office. He has an extensive litigation and counseling practice and represents employers in all aspects of labor and employment law, including issues related to discrimination, harassment, retaliatory discharge, wrongful discharge, wage and hour matters, ERISA matters, class actions, leave management matters, traditional labor matters, affirmative action plans, and trade secret and non-competition agreements. Ryan is also experienced in public records and open meetings litigation.
Litigation Practice
Ryan represents small businesses, mid-sized companies, and national employers in all facets of litigation – from administrative agencies like the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the National Labor Relations Board to bench and jury trials in federal and state courts. He has successfully obtained summary judgment and dismissals in many cases but also works with businesses to find and negotiate common-sense resolutions to disputes where appropriate. Ryan also has significant experience litigating class and collective actions under the FLSA, ERISA and applicable state laws.
Ryan’s significant litigation experience includes successfully moving to enforce arbitration agreements and shortened statutes of limitations provisions.
Counseling Practice
In addition to his litigation practice, Ryan works diligently to keep employers out of the courtroom by providing clear, concise guidance on the spectrum of employment law issues. He counsels large, multi-state employers and local businesses regarding their leave management, wage and hour, non-compete, and other employment law concerns. Ryan also has a significant traditional labor practice and regularly counsels employers on election and unfair labor practice issues.
While attending law school, Ryan served as articles editor for the University of Cincinnati Law Review. Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, he served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Sandra S. Beckwith, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
Ryan lives in Independence, Kentucky with his wife, Erin, and three sons (Liam, Oliver, and Myles).
